Instructor and students

Princeton hosts a lively and eclectic series of public lectures, open to everyone in the University community.

Speakers range from renowned economists, politicians, and world leaders to authors, philosophers, and artists. All lectures in the public series are free and open to the public; a full schedule is published on the Princeton University website.

President’s Lecture Series
The President’s Lecture Series was established in 2001 to give faculty an opportunity to learn about the work of their colleagues. The lectures are presented three times a year and are open to the public. Past lectures have addressed a variety of topics, from the fiction of Jane Austen to the study of bacteria.

Coursera
The University offers noncredit courses on Coursera, a website that extends its educational resources beyond campus.

Coursera focuses on interactive learning and concept retention through the use of video lectures embedded with quizzes, collaborative forums and online discussion groups. Users from around the globe may access Coursera for free.

Auditing
The University’s Community Auditing Program allows members of the community who are 18 and older to audit University lectures on a non-credit basis, for a nominal fee. Typically, 200 classes are available each semester for auditing, and they are open to faculty, staff and the general public.

Continuing education
The University has a Program in Continuing Education that admits qualified residents, K-12 teachers, University employees, spouses, same-sex domestic partners and dependents, and graduate students’ spouses and dependents to undergraduate and graduate courses.

The program does not grant degrees and is intended to serve students who are preparing for a career change or entrance into professional or graduate school, pursing advanced training in their fields, resuming their education after a break, or seeking personal enrichment.
