A short distance to the west of Princeton lies a series of charming towns and communities along the Delaware River, the longest free-flowing river in the eastern United States, originating from the Catskill Mountains in New York and running south along the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

If you visit the towns on the river—Lambertville, Frenchtown, Stockton, and Milford on the New Jersey side, and New Hope, Lumberville, Durham, and Point Pleasant on the Pennsylvania side—you’ll find many things to do, from shopping, eating in fine restaurants, and looking for treasures among the area’s many antique stores.

There are wineries and state parks to visit, as well as historic sites. The canal towpath beside the river is beautiful for walking and bicycling, and the canal and the river both are ideal for boating and fishing.
