Construction

Various construction projects to support the University’s goals of expanding its student body and achieving carbon neutrality by 2046 will be underway during academic year 2022-’23.  The following projects should be considered as you select your room for the upcoming academic year.

General Construction Note

Construction activities will occur between 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays and 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturdays.  Construction traffic will primarily utilize Elm Drive for deliveries and removal of material.  Pedestrian and ADA pathways will be subject to incremental re-routing which will be coordinated with those impacted.

Dillon Gym and Renovation (areas impacted: Little, Fisher, Spellman, Pyne, 1901, Dod, Brown, Cuyler, Patton, Wright)

Starting Summer 2022, construction activities will include demolition, sitework to remove existing structures; masonry repairs on the exterior of the existing building and demolition of existing exterior windows; replacement of exterior windows and vestibule entrances, as well as digging the site to the correct building elevation and to support the installation of concrete foundations which will continue through Fall 2022.  Starting Winter 2023 the exterior construction of the building will start to take shape with the installation of steel and timber structure and then follow with the exterior building elements Spring 2023

Art Museum (areas impacted: Edwards, Brown Hall, Dod Hall, 1903 Hall)

By Fall 2022 the exterior construction of the Art Museum will be near completion with interior construction of finishes and the heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems continuing throughout the academic year.  There may be installation of utilities outside of the building exterior to support the project.

Whitman Lawn Geo-Exchange (areas impacted:  Wendell, Community Hall, Hargadon, Lauritzen, Baker, 1981)

Installation of the Geo-Exchange system on Whitman Lawn is being planned for Summer 2022.  In Fall 2022 site restoration will be taking place which includes regrading or shaping the site and restoring the lawn.

Hobson College (areas impacted: First College, Patton-Wright Hall, Cuyler, 1903 Hall)

Starting Summer 2022, construction activities will include demolition of existing structures and sitework to prepare for Geo-Exchange drilling.  As demolition continues, Geo-Exchange drilling will start Fall 2022 and continue throughout the academic year.  By Spring 2023 digging of the site to the correct building elevation and to support the installation of concrete foundations will begin.

Butler Interim Dining (areas impacted: Yoseloff, 1967, Bloomberg)

In Fall 2022 sitework to install an interim dining facility on the Butler lawn will begin by digging the site to the correct elevation.  Construction of the interim dining facility will continue through Fall 2022 and will be complete in Winter 2022.

University Health Services (areas impacted: 1976, Bogle, Wilf, Scully)

Starting Summer 2022, construction activities will include demolition and sitework to remove existing structures; relocation of existing utilities and the installation of new utilities; digging the site to the correct building elevation and to support the installation of concrete foundations which will continue through Fall 2022.  Starting Winter 2023 the exterior construction of the building will start to take shape with the installation of steel and timber structure and then follow with the exterior building elements in Spring 2023.
