Only rising sophomores from Butler, Forbes and Rockefeller are permitted to apply to switch to Yeh College (formerly New College East). There are 100 spaces and these students will participate in a lottery to become part of the inaugural class. Rising sophomores from First will become the inaugural class at New College West. If I’m a rising junior, what are my housing options? You can apply to the Independent and Spelman draws either as an independent student holding no meal plan (higher priority) or with a meal (lower priority). You may also apply to the residential college draws. All residential colleges will have bed spaces for juniors and seniors next year. However, bed spaces are limited in each college. You may check the upperclass limits in the Room Draw portal for information on the limits. Students will have priority for their original residential college. All rising juniors should apply to the regular upperclass draw. If I’m a rising senior who wants to live in one of the new residential colleges, what should I do? You should apply to Yeh College (formerly New College East) and New College West room draws. Your priority will be based on your class year. There are limited senior beds and limited junior beds in each of the new college draws. Students from First College will have priority in New College West and all seniors will have equal points in the Yeh College lottery. Check the Room Draw portal for information on limits. What is the process for sophomore assignment to Yeh College (formerly New College East)? Application via Google form. Students can apply in groups of up to 4 people (one application per group) and are allowed to draw in groups composed of any eligible college (Butler, Forbes, and Rockefeller only). There is a deadline of January 31st to submit the form. Housing will randomly assign to New College East approximately 20 Butler students, 20 Forbes students and 60 Rockefeller students from among those who have submitted applications prior to the January 31 deadline. Groups will not be broken up and are not at a disadvantage. Once students have been assigned to Yeh College, they will be bound to that college. Housing will notify the college offices as to which students were assigned to New College East and will notify all students who applied as to whether or not they were assigned to the new college. Notices will go out on February 1st. Students who are assigned to Yeah College will then need to apply to the Yeh College room draw. Yeh College will then become the students’ birth college. The same rules will apply to these students as in the other college draws. Why are all colleges becoming four-year? Beginning in fall 2022, the University will transition to a fully-integrated four-year residential college system, which will further our commitment to creating continuous living-learning communities for all undergraduates. Every residential college will have rooms reserved for juniors and seniors. Will there be an option to live off-campus? First- and second-year students are required to live on campus. While juniors and seniors have the option to live off-campus, most choose to live in on-campus housing. If I’m a rising junior or senior participating in a residential college draw, will I retain my academic advising affiliation if I change colleges? No, if you change colleges you will receive academic advisement from your new college. Undergraduate Meal Plans Will I be required to purchase a meal plan? Current students who choose to live in a residential college as juniors and seniors will not be required to purchase a meal plan but may do so if they wish. (This applies to the Classes of 2023 and 2024, and to the Class of 2025 when they become juniors.) Meal plan options can be found on Campus Dining's Meal Plan page. What meal plans will be available? Available meal plan options and descriptions can be found on Campus Dining's Meal Plan page. Can I eat in a dining hall during the academic year if I don't have a meal plan? Campus Dining’s Two Extra Meals program is available for juniors and seniors who do not choose a meal plan. Under this program, students who do not purchase a meal plan are given two extra meals per week, Sunday brunch to Saturday dinner, to be used in any residential college dining hall. Juniors and seniors who purchase a block plan receive the additional equivalent two meals per week in their meal plan. Additionally, students who do not have a meal plan may eat in any dining hall at current single meal rates with a student charge or Paw Points. Cash or credit cards cannot be used for dining hall meals. Students will need to show their TigerCard to gain access to the dining halls. Be sure to let the card checker know which method you are choosing so that your account will be charged properly. Can I change my meal plan? An increase in meal plan can be made at any time. Students eligible to do so may decrease their meal plan once each semester during the allotted time period. If you have questions, please contact The Service Point at thepoint@princeton.edu. What if I run out of meals? If you are a junior or senior with the Undergraduate Block 105 Meal Plan and run out of meals, a supplementary meal pack will be available for purchase.
