New College West (NCW), located south of Poe Field, opened its doors to undergraduate students in fall 2022. It integrates into a vibrant community-building residential college environment that provides students with a home to support their educational needs. AnneMarie Luijendijk, formerly Head of First College, serves as the Head of College at NCW. As the next generation of residential colleges, NCW accommodates and supports an increasingly diverse undergraduate population.
NCW provides opportunities and resources similar to those provided at the other six colleges, such as resident graduate students, a faculty-in-residence, dining halls with private dining rooms, communal kitchens, and college office suites to maximize formal and informal interactions with students.
NCW is comprised of four primary buildings, four to seven stories high, with connections between the primary buildings at the lower levels. Public and community spaces are located on the ground floors, with residential floors above.
There are also a number of unique spaces throughout the complex, intended for shared use.
On the residential floors:
1901-Laughlin Hall was built in 1925 and is home to mostly juniors, although seniors may live there too. It stands just west of Pyne Drive and, along with Foulke and Henry Halls, forms a long quadrangle looking north to Blair Arch. In the 2002 film “A Beautiful Mind,” John Nash makes his first appearance at Princeton University in this quad.
NCW has its own dining hall, seating up to 250 persons, adjacent to a shared servery with Yeh College. The servery contains multiple food “platforms” including an East Asian station, a grille, a “hearth” area with comfort foods, and a salad and sandwich station. The two dining halls are separated by a fully enclosed courtyard, which can be used by both colleges in nice weather for seating. In addition, each dining hall opens to a courtyard between dorm towers. NCW opens to a natural, woodland landscape.
