Description Be sure to read and comply with these guidelines to make the move from your room hassle-free . Accordion Select a Move-Out Date Select a Move-Out Date Students will be asked to sign up for a check out time which can be found on the My Housing portal. Students can select a date between May 8th and May 17th. The student's room will be inspected the day following their selected check out time. The interim period is defined as after 12 noon on May 17th until summer housing begins on June 2nd. For seniors and students working reunions/commencement but not staying for the summer, your vacate deadline is Wednesday, May 29th at 12 noon. You do not need to fill out the check-out form. Rooms will be inspected on Thursday, May 31st. For spring athletes still in competition, your vacate deadline is 24 hours after your last competition. This date is communicated to us via Athletics. You do not need to fill out the check-out form. For students remaining in housing for the interim period until summer housing begins on June 2nd you do not need to fill out the check-out form. Before You Go Check List Before You Go Check List Remove your personal belongings, including carpets and furniture. Remove trash and recyclables and place them in the appropriate receptacles. Remove discarded carpets to exterior of building. Make sure all University furniture found at Move In is in your room. Dismantle and remove non-University lofts. Remove lofts to exterior of building. Sweep the floor. If you have a private bathroom, clean the bathroom. Reclaim heat-producing appliances or microwave ovens confiscated by HRES Area Coordinators (258-3435). Reclaim other items confiscated by Public Safety or HRES Area Coordinators (258-3435). Fill out a change of address form with Princeton Mail Services if you want to have your first-class mail forwarded to an address other than your home address. Magazines are second class mail and are not forwarded by Princeton Mail Services. Make plans for storage. Donate unwanted furniture, clean clothing, unused school supplies, books, and bicycles. Close and lock windows in your room or suite. Lock your door. Princeton Mail Services Prepare Room for Inspection Room Inspections Your room will be checked by HRES Area Coordinators the day after your indicated check-out date for cleanliness and condition. The general rule Your room should be returned to the condition you found it at Move In. You will not be charged for normal wear and tear, holes in the wall the size of a pencil or smaller, larger plaster chips around holes caused from weak plaster, or bike scuff marks left near bike hooks. To avoid a fine or charge Read the "Before You Go Check List" to understand your responsibility for cleaning your room, removing your property, and making sure that all University-owned furniture in your room at Move In is in place. Rooms left in extraordinarily poor condition If your room requires excessive cleaning and/or repair to rehabilitate it, you will incur the following penalties: A fine of $300 per resident A charge to all occupants for the cleaning, maintenance, and purchases required to return the room to its original state Disciplinary action Wall repair and painting Do not spackle or patch any holes or paint any part of your room. You will be liable for the repainting and repair charges incurred as the result of such actions. Non-University items left in your room Any non-University items left in your room after your vacate deadline will be considered abandoned, and you will be charged for the cost of disposal. Loft removal You are responsible for any room damage caused by the construction or removal of a loft. If ownership of the loft can't be determined, the repair cost is divided among all residents of the room or suite. University-owned furniture All University-owned furniture that was in your room at Move In must be in your room at check out, except for mattresses that you requested to be removed and stored. You will be charged the replacement cost of any missing item(s). Trash and recycling Remove trash and recyclables to the exterior of building. Do not leave them in the hallway or in your room. Spring 2024 Move-Out Spring 2024 Move-Out Move Out Deadlines The official move-out day for non-seniors, spring athletes still in competition, and students not staying on campus for reunions/commencement/summer housing is Friday May 17th, 2024 at 12 noon. Students should plan to vacate campus 24 hours after their last exam, but no later than the May 17th deadline. The deadline for spring athletes still in competition is 24 hours after your last competition. The deadline for seniors and students working reunions/commencement but not staying for summer is Wednesday, May 29th at noon. Check Out New this year, students will be asked to sign up for a check out time on their My Housing portal. Students should indicate on the form the date they are leaving campus between May 8th and May 17th. Housing staff will do a check out inspection on the day following their indicated departure date. You must sign up for a check out time by Friday, May 3rd. Interim Housing The interim period is defined as after 12 noon on May 17th until summer housing begins on June 2nd. Students will receive their interim assignments by May 8th. For all non-seniors remaining on campus for the interim period you will need to move into interim housing between Saturday, May 18th and must complete your move by 8am on Sunday, May 19th. You must be on campus to complete this move if you plan to need interim housing beyond May 17th, we are not able to make any exceptions. Most students will be consolidated into dorms on the west side of campus for this period. All vacated rooms are cleaned and used to house alumnae and families for reunions and commencement activities. You may not request to remain in your current room. Students who have housing accommodations will be assigned to rooms that meet their documented need. Donate or Recycle - Greening Move Out Donate or Recycle - Greening Move Out The Office of Sustainability and campus partners are collecting donations of unwanted, reusable materials during move-out. More information on the accepted donations and where to donate can be found on the Office of Sustainability’s Guide to Greening Move-Out. Office of Sustainability Vacate Your Room and Return Your Keys Vacate Dates and Key Return Graduating seniors Your final vacate date is the day after commencement at 12 noon. At this time, your TigerCard will be deactivated and you will no longer have access to the dormitories or your room. Please make certain you have completely vacated your room leaving it in the condition you found it. Last year many students requested to get back into rooms after the 12 noon deadline because their prox cards stopped working. This will not be allowed this year. You must vacate by the 12 noon deadline. You will not be able to get into your room should you get locked out while moving after this time so please plan accordingly. If you do not meet any of the criteria above, you should vacate your room within 24 hours of your last final exam, but no later than Friday, May 17th at 12 noon. Key return After vacating your room, return your kitchen and Sabbath keys to The Service Point, A Level New South. All card access to rooms terminates at 12 noon on the vacate deadline. No exceptions to this. Dining Schedule Dining Schedule for Move Out Take a look at the Dining Services website for a schedule of dining and operation hours during the Move Out period, commencement and reunions. Dining Services - Move Out Schedule Storage and Moving Providers/Permissable Moving Vehicles Storage and Moving Providers To ensure the safety and privacy of all residents as well as the preservation of campus grounds and facilities, the University requires storage and moving providers to meet certain criteria and agree to a set of guidelines. University-approved providers If you are interested in contracting storage or moving services, the following is a list of University-approved providers : Moving & Storage Agency Campus Storage Storage Squad Bohrens's Only those providers listed above are permitted on campus and authorized to enter dormitories. This list continues to be updated as new providers receive University approval. Your responsibility Except when contracting with the Moving and Storage Agency, it is your responsibility to be present in your dorm at the time of service.Violations It is a violation of University policy for you to contract storage and moving services with unapproved providers. Permissible Vehicles and Parking Students will be allowed to bring their vehicle up campus to their dorm and will have one hour to load their belongings. Students must load their vehicles and then immediately leave campus. There is no parking anywhere on campus and vehicles cannot be kept near the dormitory beyond the one-hour vehicle loading time. This includes personal vehicles for students or family members. No vehicles will be allowed on Elm Drive for Move-Out needs between May 16 and May 21. Moving Trucks You may bring a moving truck up to 15 feet onto campus. This length represents the cargo box attached to a majority of moving trucks made available by most rental truck agencies. This length also allows ample cargo capacity for studio apartments and 1-2 bedroom units. Trailers You may bring a trailer up to 10 feet onto campus. This length specification accommodates the University’s many narrow walkways and sharp angle turns, which make the movement of trailers very difficult and unsafe. Personal Vehicles No undergraduate students may park on campus without a permit after May 29th If you are working/living on campus and require a personal vehicle, you must purchase a summer parking permit. Permits may be requested online. Bikes and Scooters Please do not leave your bike or scooter on campus. All bikes and scooters should be removed from bike racks no later than May 11 unless you are living or working on campus over the summer. Returning to campus in the fall? Either take your bike or scooter home with you or make arrangements to store it with the Moving & Storage Agency or another University-approved storage provider. Graduating? If you are leaving campus and do not want to take your bike or scooter, please do not abandon it on campus. Recycle it for incoming students with TPS. Any bikes or scooters left behind and not properly registered will be removed from campus. Abandoned devices cannot be collected for campus reuse and will be recycled or scrapped following the University’s abandoned bike and scooter policy. Improper Check-Out Improper Check-Out Move-Out dates are non-negotiable deadlines as we work closely with Area Coordinators and Building Services on the turnover of rooms for new occupants.
